Crush Your Summer Boredom

The stereotypical idea of summer is that it is time to be “lazy” and “play,” but education researchers have found it’s potentially a dangerous time. Many students lose ground over the summer in terms of their learning in reading and other subjects. We call this “summer learning loss” or the summer slide. Research also shows that children in low-income communities are especially at risk. To prevent the summer leaning loss, students need to engage in high-quality activities. In addition, summer activities can front load some of the Common Core State Standard skills students need to be successful.
Gadsden Independent School District invites students and parents to utilize the resources on this page to have a summer of learning instead of a summer of learning loss.
